Wisconsin Lions Foundation Expands Hearing Project to Reach More Wisconsinites in Need

The Wisconsin Lions Foundation (WLF) is announcing updates to its statewide Hearing Project designed to provide greater flexibility and expand access to hearing assistance for Wisconsin residents in need.

Since 1998, the Wisconsin Lions Foundation has managed the statewide Hearing Project, providing a resource for Wisconsinites who are hard of hearing, cannot afford to purchase a hearing instrument, and do not qualify for other financial assistance. Approved applicants receive hearing instruments at no-cost.

The Hearing Project is rolling out three major updates to help those in need:

  1. Expanding its flexibility around income requirements, allowing more individuals who need assistance to potentially qualify for support.
  2. Adding assistance for individuals who have insurance coverage but are unable to afford the copay required to receive a hearing instrument.
  3. The Hearing Project can now provide assistance with eligible hearing examination costs for approved applicants, helping remove another potential barrier for individuals seeking the hearing care they need.

“These updates allow us to reach more people who need help hearing but may not have the financial resources to access the devices and services they need,” said Amanda Dehli, Healthcare Supervisor with the Wisconsin Lions Foundation. “We are excited to expand the reach of the Hearing Project and continue the Wisconsin Lions Foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of people throughout Wisconsin.”

The Hearing Project is made possible through the generosity and support of Wisconsin Lions, individual donors, hearing healthcare professionals, and hearing instrument manufacturers. The Project also receives funding through the collection of used hearing aids. Donated hearing aids are turned in for a credit, which is then used to help purchase new hearing instruments for individuals served through the Project. Through these combined efforts, the Wisconsin Lions Foundation is able to continue providing meaningful assistance to people across the state who might otherwise be unable to afford a hearing instrument.

The Hearing Project is one of five statewide projects of the Wisconsin Lions Foundation, reflecting the organization’s mission: We Serve by Reaching, Touching, and Improving Lives.
